|Often known as Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), Building Information Modeling is a process of digitizing the features or the attributes of any building structure. The whole idea of BIM or CAD drafting is to create an information database about a facility, so that the whole work process i.e. structuring to demolition can be carried out on the basis of reliable figures.|
The whole BIM work process comprises of three parts -
Building - which includes the complete life-cycle i.e. from designing to operation till demolition
Information - which includes all the features or traits of the building
Modeling - which includes digitization of the facility using tools i.e. building simulation, its delivery, and operation
Building Information Modeling utilizes dynamic and a real-time 3D model of the facility so as to optimize the Efficiency of the facility building process. It assists in developing synchronization amongst the different sections of building design, construction and building management. It is worth mentioning that different departments of facility building regularly feeds information into the database of BIM, thus keeping it updated.
In general, BIM serves as an ideal companion to plan, design, construct and manage building, facility or plant project. That's why, the process runs throughout the time and process of plan-designing-to-occupation. The biggest advantage of this whole process is that, it assists in generating highly efficient and cost-effective solutions by digitally representing the characteristics of the facility.
